In medical imaging, several types of technology are commonly used to diagnose and monitor various health conditions. Among these, Ultrasound, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), and CT (Computed Tomography) scans are the most prevalent. Each of these diagnostic imaging modalities has its own set of benefits and uses.
Compared to the other cross-sectional imaging modalities (MRI and CT), ultrasound is relatively inexpensive, widely available, does not expose the patient to radiation (unlike CT and PET), and does not require sedation (as is often needed for MRI).
